  11.    SUPERWIPE is a utility that will substantially increase the
  12. security of your computer. What does SUPERWIPE do? In order to
  13. explain what it does, I first need to explain some security holes
  14. in the DOS operating system as it works with disks.
  15.  
  16.    The delete & erase DOS instructions are convient utilities that
  17. allow you to get rid of old files. They don't actually destroy
  18. the files. They merely mark these files so that they will be
  19. ignored by the DOS operating system. Most of the time this is
  20. good enough. But what if you have sensitive files that must not
  21. be recovered?  A snoop could use the popular DOS undelete command
  22. or another utility program to entirely recover these files.

  24.    To solve this problem, wipe programs were invented. A wipe
  25. program will write a character, usually a 0 or a 1, over your
  26. entire file & then delete it. In this way, your sensitive
  27. files are made non-recoverable.

  30.     SUPERWIPE also does this but with some improvements!
  31. SUPERWIPE (unregistered) will enable you to :

  33.  
  34. 1. choose, if you like, how many times you will write over
  35.  your files. You may choose from 1 to 9 times. If you
  36. don't choose, then superwipe will default to one time.
  37.  
  38. 2. put multiple files to be wiped instead of just one!
  39.  
  40. 3.  use wildcards!
  41.  
  42. 4. mix your regular files with wildcards in any order you choose!
  43.  Multiple wildcards may be interspersed with multiple regular files!
  44.  
  45. 5. reduce your file to zero bytes, so that a snoop cannot determine
  46.   with certainty what the original size was!
  47.  
  48. 6. rename your file to a single letter, so that a snoop cannot
  49.   determine what the original name was!
  50.  
  51. 7. access several disk partitions (c: d: e: etc..) & diskette
  52.   drives in one run!

  54.    All of the above capabilities are contained in this program.

  58.          ADVANTAGES OF REGISTRATION FOLLOW:

  60.   When you register, you will receive a registered version, that
  61.  in addition to the above capabilities, will allow you to:

  63. 1: Wipe out all previously erased or deleted files! (The /OLD option.)
  64.  
  65.    The registered version will also have a nicer execution message
  66. that will lack the plea for money.
  67.  
  68.    You are probably wondering why you would want the capability to
  69. wipe out all previously deleted files. There are two reasons: one
  70. fairly obvious; one not.
  71.  
  72.    Firstly, those old deleted files may be sensitive & you forgot
  73. to wipe them properly. Or maybe, you were busy at an earlier time
  74. & did not take the time to properly wipe all the sensitive files.
  75.  Or, you may not remember wheather you wiped or erased a sensitive
  76. file. With the /OLD option, you can be sure that they are all wiped!

  78.    Secondly, many programs, including some word processors, make
  79. temporary files that are used to assist that program in its work.
  80. When the program is done, those programs are deleted. Ordinarily,
  81. this is fine, but it does leave a security hole. The /OLD option
  82. will wipe out all of them!

  84. Note: Since the /OLD option must go through the entire "unused"
  85. disk partition or diskette, it may take several minutes to complete.

  87. 2.   Registered users, will also be notified of improved versions
  88. of SUPERWIPE.

  90. 3.   Upgrades, at least for the next upgrade, will only be $10.
